Worth Furnishing, based on the edge of the Lake District, was established in 2004 by Stefan Butterworth. Back then, Stefan’s aim was to be one of the leading suppliers of quality domestic and contract furniture to the trade and, today, his company is well on the way to being one of the best upholstered furniture wholesale suppliers in the UK.
As the business grew, so the need came to expand the offices and warehouse facilities at their base in Kendal, so a significant investment was made in re-developing their site.
The new offices are very modern by any standards, built to be as future-proof as possible and with space to accommodate an ever-expanding workforce, and this meant the office being split over two levels.
Rather than building a traditional staircase to one side and hidden away, Stefan decided that he would like it to be a main feature of the property, keeping the two spaces connected yet maintaining the light and bright feel of the office.
The chosen solution is very striking, with brushed steel metalwork and solid hardwood treads. It’s design feels part ocean liner, part industrial, part sci-fi. It may sound too contemporary for a supplier of quite traditional furniture styles, but the effect is nothing short of stunning.
